George McBride, member of Youth Parliament for Bracknell Forest, represented the voices of local young people in a debate held at the House of Commons on Friday, 17th November.
The UK Youth Parliament’s session, a platform for young leaders across the nation, tackled pressing issues, including the debate on universal free school meals.
George actively participated in the discussions, echoing the views of his peers from the borough. Reflecting on the day, he said: “I was honoured to contribute to the debate surrounding standardisation of school meals – ensuring children and young people, across the country, have equal access to the same quality and quantity of nutritious food.
“MYP’s voted in favour of the financing and funding motion as the priority topic in the Food for Thought campaign as part of the British Youth Council.
“It was great to meet the speaker of the house and hear speeches from the leader of the House of Commons and shadow ministers.”
George was elected member of Youth Parliament through his commitment to Bracknell Forest Youth Voice. The group champions the interests of young people in the borough and is eager to welcome new members aged 11-18 years who live or go to school in Bracknell Forest. The group is on a mission to make the opinions and ideas of the younger generation heard, both locally and nationally.
Membership in the Youth Voice group offers the opportunity to participate in various British Youth Council events and be in with a chance of becoming the next member of Youth Parliament.
