Last Friday saw students at Kings Academy Easthampstead Park School receive the Eco Rewards most improved school award for the 2023-24 academic year.
This award highlights the school’s ongoing efforts to reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainable travel to and from school and improve health through physical activity. Kings Academy Easthampstead Park had the highest participation rate across the borough and logged 3,066 green miles over the academic year. That’s a saving of 951kg of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions compared to driving.
The school’s victory is particularly poignant, as Eco Rewards first met with students from the schools eco council in early 2020. The feedback provided by the eco council was instrumental in establishing the Eco Rewards scheme.
Two primary schools, St Joseph’s RC Primary and Sandy Lane Primary were also commended for their improvement over the year.
There to present the award was leader of the council, Cllr Mary Temperton. She said: “I am delighted to present Kings Academy Easthampstead Park with their well-deserved achievement award.
“The school’s early involvement and continued commitment to active travel and environmental responsibility are commendable – we should all take a leaf out of their book.”
Eco Rewards will be running a new school competition for this academic year. Eco Rewards also offer incentives through businesses and local communities to encourage greener travel, healthier lifestyle options, and reduced local congestion. Sign up to Eco Rewards to learn more.
