There was an amazing turn out at Morgan Recreation Ground on a beautiful sunny morning for the Plastic Free Crowthorne litter pick.
A total of 43 adults and 15 children between them walk 92.54miles whilst they picked up litter, adding a fantastic distance to the #millionmileclean. They collected a total of 38 bags of rubbish and a load of other dumped items including a lot of metal canisters, a milk crate, old wood, a metal pipe, a perfectly good quality fold up chair, a laundry hamper, bits of a TV and a broken drone.
Then there were the weird items including a wig, a doll’s leg, a plastic elephant, boxer shorts and a headless plastic snake to name just a few.
Winners of the three prizes are as follows:
Furthest distance walked whilst picking was Paul Davis and child who walked four miles!
Heaviest amount collected was Tim Watson and family who had bags full of over 22kg and a large metal canister which was estimated to weigh 30kg.
The strangest item was voted by the committee to be the wig found by J&P Barnes with the doll’s legs a close second.
Organisers also wanted to send out a special mention to Ean Lexton and family who found a load of small canisters, rotting wood and a tyre and pulled it all out of the bushes so it can be removed.
Also to Rose and her son who collected 20.7kg of rubbish between them, which was an amazing amount in a short time.
Thank you to Co-op and Karen Kay CoOp for providing biscuits and water for the pickers on their return and for helping at the pick.
