A care home in Bracknell was joined by local pupils for an eggs-tra special party.     Residents at Care UK’s Bickerton House, on Warfield Road, were joined by pupils from Wooden Hill Primary school for a cracking Easter celebration – complete with an exciting egg hunt.      Ahead of the party, residents and the pupils had written pen pal letters to each other discussing the special event. On the day, everyone enjoyed an Easter-themed arts and crafts session, as well as a scavenger hunt using crafts made by the residents, with pupils tasked to find hidden letters to retrieve their Easter eggs. The day finished with everyone taking part in traditional party games.     Carl Francis, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “Here at Bickerton House, celebrating special occasions not only creates a buzzing atmosphere...

Feather and Fur Falconry Centre in Warfield held an open weekend over the Easter break.    The centre, based in Moss End Garden Village welcomed visitors for a tour of the centre with events which included talks on kestrels, peregrines, hawks and buzzards, an owl quiz, pellet dissection and a chance to get up close and personal with the owls.    And the centre welcomed one of its newest volunteers. A spokesman said: “Oliver first visited the centre on a Junior Falconry Day. A few years later he is now a wonderful addition to our team and even stood and chatted to visitors during the open Easter weekend!! There is something very special about helping people fall in love with birds and wildlife.”  Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre is a collection of Hawks, Falcons and Owls used to allow people the opportunity to experience falconry and the unique and wonderful bond between man and bird. They offer a variety of opportunities from a half-day hands-on experience session to family falconry sessions, as well as the more unusual experiences such as the family owl encounter or awesome bird of prey birthday parties!    The centre is also open to the general public to walk around and see the 22 birds of prey on site. With education boards, activity sheets and a gift shop there is lots to learn and see.   ...

A young boy from Crowthorne is helping to head up a national Stand Up To Cancer campaignafter being a top fundraiser last year.    Last year, Walkies, the dog-walking challenge was taken on by one of the campaign’ssmallest supporters but biggest fundraisers. Charlie Woodhouse, who is nine years old,started the challenge because his dad's best friend, Uncle Ben was diagnosed with a braintumour, and he wanted to do something to help. Without a dog of his own, Charlieborrowed other people's dogs to take on the challenge with Uncle Ben's Labradors, Digby  and Bertie, being his favourites.     Sadly, two weeks into the challenge his Uncle Ben passed away. Suddenly the challenge tookon a different focus and they admitted 'it felt like we were doing it for Ben'. Charlie ended upraising an incredible £11,500 and topping the fundraisers leaderboard.   A spokesman for Stand Up To Cancer said: “We are forever inspired by people like Charlieand his family who Stand Up To Cancer. Because Charlie raised the most money of everyonewho took on the challenge last year, Channel 4 and the Stand Up To Cancer team fromCancer Research UK asked if he would help promote this year's Walkies Challenge.”     The aim was to get more people to sign up and they particularly liked the fact that Charlie,who goes to Wildmoor Heath, Crowthorne, does not own a dog, showing you can still takepart and borrow friends and family’s dogs. This year Charlie launched his own fundraising challenge over the Easter weekend, with himaiming to walk 60 miles in a month – and for his first walk, he was joined at Bucklers Forestin Crowthorne by television presenter Clare Balding.   He visited Crufts this year for the launch with Clare Balding who described his total last year as ‘incredible’.    His dad Daniel said: “I have been working with Clare for 13 years as her floor manager forthe sports broadcasts she presents. As the challenge is launched at Crufts, Clare, who is themain presenter introduces the challenge each year. I asked if she would join us this year forCharlie's first walk on Monday, she was available and more than happy to lend her support.”    Ben’s favourite route was going up lots of hills, and through a lot of mud and water – andCharlie enjoys the same, taking inspiration from his old friend.     Daniel said: “Charlie loves dogs, but I won't let him have one, our house is busy enough withtwo young boys let alone add a dog to the mix. But to see your child so enthusiastic about something...

The NatWest branch in Bracknell has announced it will be closing its doors permanently from September.    A spokesman for NatWest said: “The way customers like to bank with us has changed, with an increased demand for mobile and online services, as our customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank. Closing a branch is a decision we take very seriously, and we’re committed to helping our customers manage their money online as well as through in-person banking.”    Statistics revealed a dramatic drop in visits to the branch between 2019 and 2023. “Closing a branch is a difficult decision and not one we take lightly. We understand that this branch closure may be challenging for many and we’re working hard to help prepare our customers and colleagues for closure.”    The branch, located at 5, High Street, will close on September 4th.     NatWest is planning to introduce a community pop-up following the closure that will be based in a community venue near to the closing branch. The service will be available for up to 12 weeks and will provide information on how customers can use their local Post Office for cash-based transactions.   ...
