Bracknell Sports Enthusiasts, Get Ready for ‘Seven: Rob Burrow’ on BBC Sounds
Rugby League icon Rob Burrow MBE is bringing a new wave of inspiration to Bracknell with his BBC Local podcast, ‘Seven: Rob Burrow’, featuring the untold stories of some of the most celebrated names in sports. The seven-part series, named after Burrow’s own rugby shirt number, promises to be a beacon of motivation and resilience as it delves into the lives and challenges of sporting legends.
Despite facing motor neurone disease, the indomitable Leeds Rhino star, who now communicates with a computerised voice, sits down with fellow athletes to explore their journeys, adversities, and triumphs. The podcast is set to launch on The Total Sport Podcast on BBC Sounds, with weekly episodes starting from Tuesday, 7 November.
Listeners from Bracknell and beyond will be treated to the candid and often cheeky interviewing style of Burrow, as he converses with the likes of England football hero Wayne Rooney, now manager of Birmingham City. Rooney shares his own experiences and the profound impact of Burrow’s positive energy and charitable efforts.
The lineup of interviewees includes sporting greats such as Jonny Wilkinson, Dame Kelly Holmes, Kenny Logan, and his wife Gabby Logan, as well as Hannah Cockcroft, with more names to be announced. Burrow’s podcast is not only a showcase of his personality and humor but also a testament to living life fully regardless of the challenges one may face.
The series is made possible with the assistance of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which has supported Burrow with AI technology and eye-gaze technology, allowing him to continue making an impact. Tanya Curry, CEO of the MND Association, and Chris Burns, BBC Controller of Local Audio Commissioning, both commend the podcast for pushing boundaries and bringing inspirational stories to a wide audience.
‘Seven: Rob Burrow’ is a testament to the BBC’s commitment to creating content that resonates with audiences across the UK. Bracknell listeners can immerse themselves in these powerful narratives and witness the undying spirit of a true sports hero. Tune in to BBC Sounds this November and be part of an unforgettable journey with Rob Burrow and his exceptional guests.
