The Lexicon held its first ever gaming event, GAME ON!, during October half term. This free event saw 13 gaming stations set up in Princess Square, where people could play their favourite games or try something new.
Designed to be a family event for all ages, there was a range of consoles from NES to PS5, retro games such as Pac Man to the very latest releases such as FC24, and everything in between.
One parents from Bracknell, Fay Lambert said: “We have four neuro-divergent children aged 12 and 10 and gaming is their thing. It is difficult finding activities that all four will enjoy so to be able to do this as a family is great.
“It is free and accessible to all and it gives them the opportunity to explore different things. Some of the games are retro so it is good for them to see the progression to games of today and they are interested in coding.”
Fay added that they have been looking forward to the event for weeks. “It is also nice that it is free because as you can imagine, with four children half term can be quite expensive. It’s great for me too as some of the games are a blast from the past.”
Another parent, Ollie Knowles, was also enjoying time with his daughter Isabella. He said: “It is great to have something to do together. It is lovely to have an interest in common and to be able to do a bit of father/daughter bonding.”
A new games area for little ones was also launched in Princess Square, featuring simple-to-enjoy games such as snakes & ladders, hop-scotch and ‘the floor is lava ’
GAME ON! was managed by Joypad, an experienced gaming specialist which has been running gaming events, large and small for more than a decade.
