It is with great sadness and sorrow that Bracknell Rugby Club announced the death of Jon Dance this week.
Jon was part of the fabric of club for six decades and fundamental in how the club is today.
The club sent its sincere condolences to his wife Mary and children Nick, Mark, Katie and Ister at this very sad time.
After more than 36 illustrious years as Bracknell Rugby Club’s President, Jon stepped down in 2020.
Jon joined the club in 1972 and became Club Secretary in the same year and was involved in the completion and opening of the present Clubhouse that year He has been attending Committee meetings every year since then as Secretary, Chairman or President. During his time as President, Jon has worked tirelessly to help players, coaches and all members in enjoying their time at Lily Hill Park.

Under his guidance the club reached the high echelons of playing at Championship level and over the years of his tenure have had successes in all areas of Senior, Academy, Ladies, Junior and Mini rugby.
Jon’s unique style and approach to getting things done have led to the profile of Bracknell Rugby Club reaching well beyond just County level. He has never faltered in this along with his desire for only the best for the club.
Whilst President of the club he also Chaired the South West Division, was President of Berkshire and from 1995 to 2015 was on the RFU Council filling various roles including 12 years on the Board of the Union and five years on the Boards of World Rugby and Rugby Europe representing England.
His hard work and dedication to our game received the highest recognition when he was appointed RFU President in July 2014.
A spokesman at the time said: “The knowledge and experience that he brings to the club and its Executive Committee will be almost impossible to replace and I am sure we will still receive this welcome advice from the side-lines as we move forward.”
