A warm welcome was given to Cllr Jenny Penfold as she became the new Mayor of Bracknell Forest at the Annual Meeting of the council on Wednesday 15th May.
Cllr Penfold, who has represented Hanworth ward since 2023, was elected as Mayor of Bracknell Forest during the meeting. She takes over as first citizen of the borough from Cllr Naheed Ejaz.
Jenny and her husband, Nick, have lived in Bracknell for 40 years. They have two sons, both educated in local schools, but now living in other parts of the UK. She worked locally as a teacher, mainly at Garth Hill College, but with a spell at Easthampstead Park school. She also helped as a governor and a parent-helper at her boys’ primary school, The Pines.
During the mayor-making ceremony, Cllr Penfold introduced the new Deputy Mayor, Cllr Janet Cochrane. Cllr Cochrane lives in Great Hollands and also represents the Hanworth ward.
The new Mayor is looking forward to engaging with voluntary groups, businesses and schools across the borough and recognising them and individuals for the significant contribution made by them to the community.
She will be accompanied by her consort, Mr Nick Penfold.
The new Mayor said:
“I am excited about the year ahead and carrying out mayoral duties across the borough.
In particular, I am looking forward to meeting with local communities and doing the best job I can for those people living, working or visiting Bracknell Forest. I have deputised for the current Mayor, so I know that I will have to work very hard! I want to thank Cllr Ejaz for all her support last year”.
