Local businesses, community groups, schools, residents, councillors and council staff came together on Monday, 8th July for the second Bracknell Forest Council climate change summit.
Following the success of last year’s summit, the Joint Community Action Board (JCAB) was formed. The JCAB brings together representatives from different sectors of our community to collaborate on action against climate change.
This year, the JCAB, working groups and even more local representatives joined the summit at the 3M offices in Bracknell to set out their plans towards net zero.
Attendees were updated on the current situation in Bracknell Forest, the council’s progress and took part in various workshops to help inspire change in their sectors, including:
- Understanding climate change and its impacts
- Developing your own climate change action plan
- Reducing your energy bill and emissions
- Enhancing biodiversity around you
- Creating a plan for sustainable travel
- Managing your own waste better
- Improving health and reducing emissions
- Driving climate action at your school
Cllr Mary Temperton, leader of Bracknell Forest Council and executive member for council strategy and climate change, said: “We are delighted to have welcomed over 150 local representatives from our businesses, schools, community groups and local organisations to attend the second Bracknell Forest Council climate change summit.
“It was inspiring to see so many people engaged in creating action plans for themselves or their organisation and collaborating to help one another.
“We will continue to support the joint community action board to track the progress we are making across the borough.”
An updated version of the council’s climate change strategy will be published later in the year. Further information about the council’s climate change action plan and what everyone can do to help, is on the council’s climate change webpages.
