This year, the mayor of Bracknell Forest has announced she is supporting The Ark Trust as her chosen charity. The Ark Trust, based in Bracknell Forest, began over 30 years ago. It has developed from being an arts-based disability charity, to providing a wider range of services, mainly for people aged 18 years and over.
The Ark Trust works with people in the south east of England with disabilities and long term health conditions, with their carers and with young people who are not in education, employment or training.
The charity also supports the community and voluntary sector in the local area, for the benefit of the public and to ensure the equality for all people to engage in citizenship.
The mayor, Cllr Jenny Penfold, said “Many residents will be familiar with this charity as they help a wide range of people in Bracknell Forest from the elderly, the housebound to the young with special needs and disabilities. The Covid vaccination clinics at Waitrose were organised by The Ark Trust and its volunteers and they played an important role in delivering prescriptions, shopping, and checking that people were okay during the pandemic. So the more we can raise for The Ark Trust, the more people and groups we can help in Bracknell Forest.”
Andrea McCombie, chief executive officer of The Ark Trust, said: “The Ark is delighted to have been chosen as the mayor’s charity this year. Much of the work that we do to support people in the community relies on fundraising and donations and this will be a valuable contribution. We also hope that it will raise the profile of not just our charity, but also give our members the opportunity to raise awareness in the community about disabilities and unpaid carers and the challenges many are currently facing. Our members, staff and volunteers are looking forward to supporting the mayor with her fundraising activities and events throughout the year across the borough.”
A number of fundraising events are being planned, so please help the mayor to support this worthy cause. Details will be posted on the social media pages of the mayor, Bracknell Forest Council and The Ark Trust.
