Bracknell Leisure Centre proudly hosted the British Lymphology Society’s National lymphaletics event at the weekend. Organised to raise awareness of paediatric lymphoedema, the event brought together local families for a day of inspiring talks, sports and expert support.
Lymphoedema is a chronic condition that causes tissue swelling, usually in the arms or legs, due to a compromised lymphatic system.
Supported by Everyone Active, the event helped inspire young people with advice on managing their condition. Paralympian and 2024 paralympic bronze medallist, Ndidikama Okoh, shared her empowering story of becoming an athlete with lymphoedema.
Also in attendance were social media influencer, Bella Roberts and DJ Arjun Bhambra who spoke about their experiences managing the condition.
A specialist team from St George’s Hospital were on hand to give expert guidance on managing lymphoedema, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
Kevin Gibbs, executive director of communities, said: “Hosting this event was a proud moment for Bracknell Forest Council. It brought our community together and showed the importance of keeping active, in improving the lives of those with lymphoedema.
“We’re grateful for the involvement of so many inspiring role models who made the day so memorable.”
Mark Tennant, Everyone Active contract manager, said: “We were thrilled to have supported the British Lymphology Society’s National lymphaletics event at Bracknell Leisure Centre. Our mission has always been to encourage and enable physical activity for all, regardless of ability or condition. This event perfectly aligns with that goal, showcasing how sports and movement can positively impact those living with lymphoedema.”
