In a bid to clamp down on illegal and unsightly fly tipping at recycling sites, the Bracknell Forest Council has recently issued 19 fines ranging from £100 to £400 to people dumping their household waste at local recycling banks.
Boxes, bags, and other household items are being left by glass and clothes banks across the borough. This quickly builds up, creating a messy environment. Recently, even larger items like mattresses, fridge freezers, broken furniture, and electrical appliances have been dumped at some locations.
CCTV is already in place in Birch Hill and Great Holland Square to help deter fly-tipping, and in the coming months, CCTV will be installed across all 39 community recycling sites. Anyone found to be dumping waste at these locations is at risk of a fine.
To get rid of waste responsibly, residents can use the Longshot Lane Recycling Centre, which accepts a variety of household waste items. Appointments can be easily booked on the re3 website.
For larger or bulky items, residents can also use second hand sites, charity collections and donations, or arrange a council collection. There’s a 50 per cent discount for those on income-related benefits, such as income support, jobseeker’s allowance, pension credit, and employment support allowance. Cllr Helen Purnell, cabinet member for environment, community and housing, said: “We are asking all residents to play their part in keeping Bracknell Forest clean and tidy. Only glass and clothing should be disposed of at community recycling centres.
“Thank you to those who take responsibility for their waste and even go that step further to reuse it or donate it for others to use. If you do spot anyone fly tipping, please report it to us so we can take action.”
