A public consultation on the updated strategy for protecting the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area (SPA) will run until 12th February. Bracknell residents, developers, and other stakeholders are encouraged to take part and share their views.
The updated strategy looks to balance the need for new homes with the protection of local wildlife and green spaces, making sure we have sustainable growth across the borough.
It outlines key measures to safeguard rare birds and unique habitats within the SPA, while providing new recreational green spaces for the community to enjoy.
Key proposals include:
- creating suitable alternative natural greenspaces (SANGs) to attract visitors away from the protected heathlands
- supporting the strategic access management and monitoring (SAMM) project, which helps manage visitor impacts and preserve wildlife on the SPA
Cllr Guy Gillbe, cabinet member for planning, transport, and countryside, said:
“Our borough’s beautiful green spaces, home to rare birds like Dartford Warblers, Nightjars, and Woodlarks, are incredibly special.
“This consultation is an important opportunity for everyone to have their say on how we protect these vital areas while supporting sustainable growth in our communities. I encourage everyone to take part and share their feedback.”
