Wooden Hill Primary School recently became the 22nd school in the Bracknell borough to launch the Eco Rewards Scheme.
The scheme was introduced with an assembly from the leader of the council, Cllr Mary Temperton, and the Eco Rewards team.
It gave pupils the opportunity to learn about climate change. They explored why it is happening and how walking, cycling, or using public transport can help reduce CO2 emissions and improve their health.
The children asked great questions and showed enthusiasm for making a difference. They were introduced to the scheme’s QR code system, which allows them to log their journeys and access rewards, as well as take part in fun challenges and competitions. The response has already been positive, with over 20 pupils signing up over the first weekend.
Cllr Mary Temperton, leader of Bracknell Forest Council and cabinet member for climate change, said:
“I was delighted to help launch Eco Rewards at Wooden Hill Primary School. The pupils showed a fantastic understanding of climate change and were eager to take action.
“Choosing to walk or cycle even part of the way to school makes a real difference to their health, their environment, and their future.”
The scheme also aims to ease congestion around the school gates at drop-off and pick-up times, making the area safer and less busy for everyone.
Eco Rewards is making a big impact in Bracknell Forest, with over 606,000 green miles recorded so far – enough to circle the Earth more than 20 times! Schools, businesses, and local communities can all get involved and start earning rewards for making sustainable travel choices.
