Residents are invited to have their say on the proposed school attendance strategy, following the council’s cabinet being fully in favour of the public consultation. This strategy will ensure the council is aligned with the Department for Education’s guidance for improving school attendance.
The strategy will be shaped by the views of parents and carers, schools, children and young people, voluntary and other statutory organisations who take part in the consultation.
The consultation is open from 18 November 2024 to 17 January 2025.
Give us feedback on the school attendance strategy
In addition, there will be consultation workshops for schools, parent and carers and other groups of professionals, as well as the opportunity for written comments to be submitted by email.
The strategy proposes priority areas, including:
- making sure that all partners have clear roles and responsibilities
- consistency with shared approach and training
- supporting the most vulnerable
- meeting the needs of the local community
Cllr Roy Bailey, cabinet member for children and young people, said:
“The council recognises the need for a clear and robust strategy to improve school attendance for Bracknell Forest pupils. The council’s cabinet agreed to support a public consultation with residents at its meeting on 12th November. The feedback will be invaluable in helping to shape the way in which school attendance is managed in the future.
“I would encourage anyone invited to take part in the consultation to do so, so their views on this important subject can be heard.
“Once the consultation is complete and the responses analysed, the proposed strategy will be finalised and presented to the cabinet for approval in March 2025.”
