Four local schemes will receive a share of £50,000 to directly help residents with energy costs, food or essential items, as part of the Household Support Fund.
In autumn last year, the council received funding from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). This was to support residents experiencing financial hardship and the impact of cost-of-living pressures.
Bracknell Forest Council asked local voluntary, community and faith sector organisations to apply for a grant to fund schemes supporting local residents. Support may include vouchers, payments, or direct food or energy provision. It also covers items associated with food and energy, such as:
- cooking equipment
- ‘warm boxes’
- energy-efficient lightbulbs
- coats
- blankets
Grainne Siggins, executive director, people, said:
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this funding from the DWP to local voluntary, community, and faith sector organisations in Bracknell Forest.
“These organisations have been instrumental in supporting our residents with the cost-of-living challenges so far. We aim to increase their reach through this funding. We know there will be many residents who need support. They may not be in touch with the council but they are connected to local community groups.
“The successful projects will increase our reach into the community and provide continued support with food costs and essentials linked to energy and water.”
To help raise awareness of local support services and organisations, the council is holding a free, money saving information event. Drop in to Princess Square, The Lexicon on Friday 24th January between 11am and 2.30pm.
