Work to open Buckler’s Park Community Hub in Crowthorne has moved one step closer, with the completion of the lease and Age Concern Bracknell Forest (ACBF) taking on the management of the building.

Age Concern Bracknell Forest was appointed as operator of the hub last year and work has been ongoing behind the scenes to officially hand the building over to them. This latest milestone marks a significant step forward for the hub and its expected opening to the public in spring 2025.

The community hub was delivered by Cala Homes as part of the Buckler’s Park development and will offer a range of facilities. These include a large sports hall, meeting rooms and tennis courts, which will offer several activities and services to local people of all ages. An onsite café is also anticipated to open later in 2025.

Cllr Iskandar Jefferies, cabinet member for leisure, culture, public protection and democracy, said: “We are delighted to have reached this milestone in the development of Buckler’s Park Community Hub. This facility will provide a much-needed modern community centre for children and adults of all ages in the heart of Buckler’s Park, Crowthorne.

“Our wish has always been for this hub to bring people of all backgrounds together. It will be a warm and welcoming place for people to come and socialise, exercise or to simply relax after a walk in the forest. ACBF has substantial experience in managing community spaces and we look forward to the hub becoming a much-loved and well used facility in Crowthorne.”

Andrew Eltham, chief executive officer at ACBF, said: “We are thrilled to announce that Age Concern Bracknell Forest is taking over as the operator of the Buckler’s Park Community Hub, an incredible facility at the heart of the community. This marks the beginning of an exciting journey as we prepare to open the doors of this space and bring it to life for the benefit of all.

“Our team is already hard at work getting the building ready for use by the community, and we can’t wait to share this fantastic space with you. In the lead-up to our official launch, we will be hosting a series of community engagement events, offering residents and partners the chance to explore the hub, take guided tours, and ask us any questions.

“These events will take place in January, and we warmly invite everyone to join us. It’s the perfect opportunity to see the potential of this space and share your ideas for its future.

“We’re looking forward to a great journey ahead, with Buckler’s Park Community Hub growing from strength to strength as a vibrant space for connection, creativity, and collaboration. Together, we’ll make this a true hub of community life.

“You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram for details of events taking place, or find out more on our website. Stay tuned for updates as we get ready to launch!”

Bracknell Forest Council will now work with ACBF to get the building ready for opening. Further details of an opening date will be issued next year. In the meantime, anyone wishing to know more about room hire or running activities at the hub, should contact: info@ageconcernbracknell.org.uk for more information.
